Create the Context for Healthy Children and Families through Norms Change and Programs

It is important to remember parenting does not occur in a vacuum. Creating a community context that supports effective parenting is critical to children experiencing safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments. In general, parents benefit from feeling consistent support from their family, friends, and the broader community.

Here are three steps CDC suggests to support parents and caregivers in providing safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments:
  • Promote the community norm that we all share responsibility for the well-being of children
  • Promote positive community norms about parenting programs and acceptable parenting behaviors
  • Implement evidence-based programs for parents and caregivers
